TFTD started as a writing experiment a few years ago. After reading regular
columnists in InfoWorld, and realizing they also had day jobs, I wondered what
it would take to write commentary and opinion on a regular basis. I set myself
to finding something to write about every working day. I added the "wakes
up in his own home" exception after my travel schedule picked up
considerably. The original TFTD mailing list was maintained on my
workstation at home so mailing it from the road added an extra complication.
That original mailing list consisted of about six coworkers. It grew by word
of mouth until I started tripping the bulk mail anti-spam filters on my
provider's SMTP servers. I had to adopt server mailing list management to fix
the problem, a much better solution.
