JUNEAU EMPIRE
SUNDAY, JULY 11, 1999
Michael Orelove taught the descendants of Joe Juneau how to pan for gold at Gold Creek during their recent family gathering over the Fourth of July weekend.
"I couldn't resist," said the 1999 Alaska State Gold Panning Champion. "It was fun. Most of them found a little color in the creek," he said. He wouldn't say if he salted the gravel, but admitted he wanted them to have a good time. The best part? "I'm a Juneauite, and they're not. They're Juneaus."
